Yesterday, the rain stopped, so we took a trip down the valley to the village of Coreglia. It used to be a favourite walk, but the paths there are now impassable due to the severe weather last winter and this October. On the way, in Barga we passesd lots of people dressed as the "Befana" - the benevolent witch who appears today - Epiphany - and gives out presents to the children.
In Coreglia, around the streets there were many miniature "Presepio"s - nativity scenes with ox and ass and holy family. There is also a house in this humble place with a famous operatic connection ...

In a barrel, a well weatherproofed presepio ... |

... and another, with moss to take advantage of the rain! |

The plaque on the wall tells us that "in this house was born Oreste Antonini, first tenor to sing Your tiny Hand is Frozen from Puccini's Bohème" - Barbara looks as if she is just about to give us a sample! |

A blink of sun, but the Appenines are still cloaked in mist |

I had never heard of the tenor Oreste Antonini: now I have! You are gathering so much stuff during your explorative trips, that you could easily write a book, if you wanted.
ReplyDeleteIs the path Tiglio-Coreglia really unpassable? Does it look as anybody is going to fix it? Pietro
